Meet BSBA Member Deanny Lungu-Underwood

Belmont Shore is home to over 150 businesses, with a story behind each one of them.
Please meet BSBA Member Deanny Lungu-Underwood, founding attorney of Lungu Law Group and BSBA Executive Committee member.

How’d you get your start?

I started my career as a business transactional lawyer, thinking I wanted to work at a large firm and do that my entire career ,but very quickly I recognized that I didn't feel like I was making a difference in people's lives. And, all of the work that I did was transactional, and there really was not much personal interaction with the clients.

What holds more value for you: creativity or knowledge?

Knowledge! I can’t get enough of reading, keeping up with changes in the laws, learning about other industries and providing valuable insight and advice to our clients.

What is your favorite part about operating your business in the shore?

Belmont Shore is such a warm and friendly community. I know many of the business owners here in the Shore and love being part of the Belmont Shore Business Association.

Describe your perfect day out and about locally.

My perfect day in the Shore would be meeting with a couple of clients at our office, meeting a colleague or client for lunch at George’s or Open Sesame, returning back to work for a bit and then meeting my girlfriends for Happy Hour at Nick’s on2nd.

What inspired you to start your business?

Before I became an Estate Planning Attorney, I had heard about wills and trusts and other legal documents that can help you if you are incapacitated or when you die. But what I didn’t realize is that by focusing on just the legal documents (which is the traditional transactional way of doing estate planning still being done today), in fact fails many families! Instead, I’ve modeled my business in such a way to follow up with our clients to see if they’ve had changes in their lives and in their assets so that their estate plans will continue to ACTUALLY work throughout their life whenever the plan is needed to work.

What sets Lungu Law Group apart from other lawyers or law firms and what advice do you have for others who to open a small business?

My firm takes a long-term and outcome-based approach to our clients’ estate planning. What this means for our clients is that their families will have an estate plan that will actually work for them when that plan is actually needed, thereby avoiding unnecessary family conflict and the probate court system.

Keep moving forward, every day take one more step toward your goals.

Why did you choose Belmont Shore as the location for your office?

We have been residents of Belmont Heights since 2000 and have raised our 4 kids here.

After commuting for work for many years, when I decided to open up my own firm, of course I immediately thought –in the Shore! It's such a warm and friendly community.
